Jon Robinson

Portfolio Manager

Jon has a passion for helping clients achieve better outcomes through investment strategies that help sidestep the natural human biases that otherwise could lead to abandoning a sound financial plan.

He joined the Bluegrass Capital Advisors team in 2016 in a sub-advisory capacity, but he’s been collaborating with fellow Portfolio Manager Brandon Langley since 2003. They partnered to create a quantitative alternative investment firm in 2006. Their work demonstrated the efficacy of systematic investing strategies, but they become disillusioned with the “black box” that surrounded many similar models they saw available to clients of financial advisory firms like Bluegrass Capital Advisors.

Jon and Brandon decided to shine a light on the black box and transform it into a simple, transparent cube when they launched an asset management firm in 2013. The goal was to package systematic, repeatable, and rules-based investment tools as strategies that are highly accessible for firms like ours to use in client portfolios.

Jon began his career as a Trader and Market Maker at Bear Stearns before serving as an Equity Research Analyst with Prudential Equity Group.

He earned bachelor’s degrees in finance and economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Family Man

Jon’s passion for helping others achieve their full potential permeates his work both in and out of the office. He believes the keys to unlocking full potential are honesty, integrity, and generosity, and Jon is intentional about cultivating a culture defined by those attributes within the Bluegrass Capital Advisors team, leadership teams of organizations he participates in, and his own family.

He’s a family man who spends his free time with his wife, two daughters, son, and Bosco the family Labradoodle. As the kids get older, more and more of that time is spent running a shuttle service to and from football practice and piano lessons, as well as coaching basketball. By Saturday night, Jon’s usually pretending he’s not tired and trying (normally unsuccessfully) to convince his wife to watch a documentary.

Additionally, Jon:

  • Attends Westover Church
  • Serves on the Board for Priority One Greensboro
  • Is the North Carolina State Coordinator for Marked Men for Christ
  • Gives back to his alma mater on the Department of Economics Board of Advisors for the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
  • Is on the board of the Spartan Leadership Foundation
